The following are examples of recent cases which raise the issue of police misconduct in various forms. Each case arises from the mid-Hudson Valley. Each is typical of a kind of case the firm litigates. However, we cannot litigate every case and are convinced that systemic change is required. For this reason, we are working with the Democratic Alliance to sponsor events around the region which will draw greater attention to the issue, allow victimized people to speak out and begin developing a consensus for new policies and procedures which will represent substantial change.

The Alliance is sponsoring a public hearing in Port Jervis to focus on abuses by that police agency and its neighboring Deerpark Police Department. Click here for more information about that event, scheduled for November 13, 2011.

For an example of those efforts, please click here for the report Michael Sussman wrote in 2007 following three public hearings focused on abuses committed by the City of Newburgh Police Department. This report was circulated to municipal officials who have since implemented some of the recommendations.
